Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package: Insurance Scheme for Health Workers Fighting COVID-19

As per the announcement made under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package, the launch of ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package:

Insurance Scheme for Health Workers Fighting COVID-19’ has been approved with the following conditions:

1- It will provide an insurance cover of Rs. 50 lakh for ninety (90) days to a total of around 22.12 lakh public healthcare providers, including community health workers, who may have to be in direct contact and care of COVID-19 patients and who may be at risk of being impacted by this. It will also include accidental loss of life on account of contracting COVID-19;

2- On account of the unprecedented situation, private hospital staff/ retired/volunteer/ local urban bodies/contract/daily wage/ ad-hoc/outsourced staff requisitioned by States/ Central hospitals/autonomous hospitals of Central/States/UTs, AIIMS & INIs/ hospitals of Central Ministries can also be drafted for COVID-19 related responsibilities. These cases will also be covered subject to numbers indicated by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare;

3- The insurance provided under this scheme would be over and above any other insurance cover being availed of by the beneficiary

 Let me tell you, on the psbloansin59minutes portal, State Bank of India (SBI), Bank of India (BOI) and Corporation Bank MSME have given in-principle approval for loans up to Rs 5 crore.  Bank of India plans to reach out to its retail products with the help of this portal.  Bank of India (BOI) is working on this scheme.  The general manager of Bank of India (BOI) said, "With the help of this portal, customers will be able to avail home and auto loans."

 However, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is also working on this scheme.  Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is getting good response from the psbloansin59minutes platform.  Now, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is not only considering raising the loan limit for MSMEs to Rs 6 crore, but is also looking at retail (home and auto loans) on the portal in the near future.

 According to a senior official of another government bank, if products like home and auto loans are launched on the psbloansin59minutes platform, the bank's retail business will expand, and the transaction problem will be lessened.

 Eligibility letter and in-principle approval is now available in 59 minutes when applying for a loan using the MSME psbloansin59minutes platform.  Apart from this they can also make their choice in the bank.  Loans are available within 7-8 days after receiving the approval letter.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the psbloansin59minutes portal in 2018.  Within 4 months of launch, a loan of Rs 35000 crore was approved in principle with the help of this portal.  As of March 31, 2019, 50706 applications have received in-principle approval in the psbloansin59minutes portal.  The initiative reimagines and simplifies the overall process of fund raising and has been designed to ease access of credit to Individuals and MSMEs.  This is a unique platform that ensures seamless In-principle loan approval.

 The initiative aims at automation and digitization of various processes of Business Loan (Term Loan, Working Capital Loan and Mudra Loan) and Retail Loans (Personal Loan, Home Loan and Auto Loan) in such a way that a borrower gets an In-principle approval  letter in less than 59 minutes.  The borrower has been given the flexibility to choose lender.

 Business Loan In-principle approvals, with / without collateral, are currently provided for value from INR 1 Lac to INR 5 Crore.  The Rate of Interest starts from 8.5% onwards.  The Platform is integrated with CGTMSE to check eligibility of borrowers.Mudra Loan In-principle approvals are currently provided for value from INR 10,000 to INR 10 Lacs.

 Personal Loan In-principle approvals are currently provided for value up to INR 20 Lacs, Home Loan In-principle approvals are currently provided for value up to INR 10 Crores and Auto Loan In-principle approvals are currently provided for value up to INR 1 Crore  .
